About My Approach to Art Therapy and Psychotherapy

​

I first learned of Rudolf Steiner in the 1980s, when I was introduced at school to Michiko Koyasu's book Munich School Children. Later, in 2000, I encountered the lyre through Yuiko Aoki's CD.
This led me to take an interest in the art therapy practiced from around 1921 onward by the physician Ita Wegman. While at university, I had the opportunity to serve as an art therapy intern in the clinical setting of the Arlesheim Clinic in Switzerland, which she had founded.
Rudolf Steiner died in 1925, and the lyre was completed in 1926. As a result, the playing techniques and music therapy practices used with the lyre today have been developed by practitioners of anthroposophy.
In my own therapeutic and educational-therapeutic work, I draw as needed on aspects of Rudolf Steiner's lectures that are useful for therapy. I am not devoted to any particular doctrine or belief system; rather, I study and practice clinical techniques relevant to music and art therapy and education objectively, drawing also on the approaches of Carl Orff, Paul Nordoff and Clive Robbins, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, and, within the psychoanalytic tradition, Donald Winnicott, as well as the theory of John Bowlby.
